Andrea Sbarbati is well known for his intense scientific activity being  author of 356 publications, with an H-Index 50 and 9875 citations (Scopus database). As an expert in regenerative medicine, he is known for his research on plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine with particular focus on rejuvenation, biostimulation and aging. His scientific activity is oriented on mesenchymal stem cells, adipose tissues and nanotechnologies. He has been the coordinator of many projects on nanotechnologies applied to imaging such as “Beating Heart” – Marie Curie Action; “Magnetosomes as nanotechnology platform for thermotherapy of tumors” or “In vitro and in vivo study of the impact of nanoparticles on the biological characteristics of cells and tissues”. Also relevant is the action in the field of regenerative medicine and pharmaceuticals, with a series of research projects mainly linked to the productive world and to innovative companies. Prof. Sbarbati is responsible of the conduction of laboratories of morphological investigation, spectroscopic and pre-clinical imaging at the University of Verona. His skills cover techniques of cell biology, sonography, optical and electronic microscopy, X-ray microanalysis, optical imaging and nuclear magnetic resonance. In these laboratories medical devices, chemical compounds and specific procedures are tested in partnership with companies, academic scientists and selected clinicians. In particular, a main expertise of the study group is in preclinical study of the molecular mechanisms involved in the remodeling of subcutaneous tissue after injection of fillers based on hyaluronic acid or for the evaluation of cosmetic surgery techniques with hyaluronic acid-based materials associated with lipofilling. These studies were based on a wide experience in approaches based on fat graft both in preclinical models and in clinical setting. The works on this topic are among the most cited in scientific international literature as well as the studies on anatomy and classification of the adipose tissue. More recently, the researches on cellulite and stretch marks and studies on application of PRP or radiofrequencies on scars were object of publications. As evident from the data in literature, the Verona’s laboratory led by Prof. Sbarbati represents an important point of reference for studies on anatomy of subcutaneous tissue, aging and aesthetic procedures both based on chemical, physical or mechanical devices.
